Jake William Gaines Jr.
In April 1986, Synagogue Missionary Baptist Church announced that Jake Gaines Jr. would lead them as pastor. Synagogue’s was a relatively small church on Detroit’s eastside. At the time, Pastor Gaines was working for the City of Detroit as a negotiator for city contracts. A short time after accepting his calling as pastor of Synagogue Baptist Church, the spirit of God spoke to him and told him to leave his job, and dedicate of life to the ministry and the development to the people of Synagogue Baptist Church. Needless to say, the transition from making a (decent) salary with the City of Detroit, to accepting a (inadequate) salary from a small congregation was not an easy transition. However Pastor Gaines and his family somehow persevered as he continued to study, and grow in the Word of God.
As he continued to sharpen his knowledge of scripture, his congregation began to grow, not only in spiritual knowledge, but also in number. Pastor Gaines’ vision and obedience to God moved us to our current location, finalized the complete renovation of our sanctuary, and started several ministries that were developed to grow people into better people.
As the years passed, his dedication to God’s people is second to NONE. His personal sacrifices for his congregation are innumerable. His wisdom and counseling is constantly sought after by his peers and strangers alike. This is a man whose phone never stops ringing for advice, prayer, counseling, visitation, preaching requests, etc.
For 30 years, Pastor Gaines has been married to Synagogue Baptist Church. Now is the time to present him with an anniversary gift that he can look at and remember fondly for years to come.
The Month of April 2016 is when the celebration begins. Help support us in giving him a Memorable 30th Anniversary Gift by purchasing an ad in his souvenir book.
